Manners & impulse control. Teach your pup to sit rather than jump, pay attention, come when called, wait at the door or curb, walk nicely on leash, and more.
Bite inhibition. Keep your hands and sleeves safe, and lay the foundation for a gentle mouth throughout your pup’s life.
Socialization. Shape your puppy into a well-mannered urbanite who likes children, strangers, other dogs, and the whole city environment.
Handling. Teach your pup to enjoy being touched for easy nail clipping, vet exams, grooming, etc.
House-training. Get the A to Z on potty training, complete with a schedule and helpful tips.
Confinement & crate training. Learn about these essential management tools.
Puppy-proofing your home. Hide those slippers. Protect your plants. Cover the electric cords.
Planning around a puppy. Our tips from the trenches make puppyhood stress-free for you and your household.

For a teenage dog, the world is full of temptation and distraction: Chicken bones on the street. Other dogs. Pizza on the coffee table. Too much fun to come when called. 301 - High School

Prerequisite: Intermediate level course at SF Puppy Prep, SF SPCA, SmartyPup!, BravoPup, or Sirius, (Equivalent private training, or classes elsewhere with consent of instructor.)

For dogs 2 years and under.

Now that you and your puppy have become a tight training team, it's time to step it up another grade level--In this course you'll challenge your pups with new brain puzzles: Distance commands, long down stays, smooth leash moves, and the know-how to be calm, cool, and collected on the street or at your front door. Oh, and did we say you'll learn a lot too?

All good things come to those who wait. Rewards are earned and not freely given. Your puppies need to learn that the gateway to all the things they cherish is through you, whether it’s a toy, greeting a person, playing with a dog-friend, going for a walk, getting a chewy, etc.

Generalization. The secret to get their attention anywhere, not just in your living-room. A "Down" isn't a "Down" unless your pup will do it wherever and whenever you ask--even in the middle of a parade!

Is that a treat in your pocket? It's time to pick and choose when you treat your dog. You'll learn how to judge your best use of goodies in order to achieve faster, stronger behaviors. Eventually your pup will work for you without them.

Off-leash freedom. Achieve a level of attention and trust where your dog can run-free and never leave your orbit.

Develop a training habit. No need to train an hour a day! Learn to incorporate training into the time you normally spend with your dog so that it's a no-brainer, and just a fun, everyday, bond you share.

Class runs for 6 consecutive weeks. Last 2 classes are in outdoor locations.

Upcoming Puppy High-School classes:

Tuesdays, August 3-September 7, 7:30-8:30pm (Brenda/Aishe)

Mondays, August 23-October 4, 6:15-7:15pm (Michelle/Aishe)

Prerequisite: Puppies must be under 24 weeks old.

Total Recall: Fun and Games that teach your pup a rocket recall

The "Come" cue is perhaps the most important one you can teach your young pup. It could save them in an emergency, it will allow them to run freely off-leash.  It will save you from exasperating games of chase when it's time to leave the dog park.

Keep your puppy coming back for more, before they decide to high-tail it in the other direction! We'll focus on Recall games and show you how you can build a solid, reliable recall in a fun and easy way!

Saturday, July 31, 2:00-4:00pm (Aishe and Staff)

Includes off-leash puppy play!

Leash Skills--Walk this way!

Taking a walk with your puppy doesn't have to be a push me- pull you of frustration! Whether you have a puller, or a staller,-work out the kinks on your leash walks.

This workshop will focus on fun training games that teach your pup the rules of the road. You'll learn the secret to:

  • Increase their focus on you vs. what's up ahead.
  • Build impulse control muscles to help resist distractions like garbage or other dogs.
  • Make the choice to walk by your side .

Saturday, August 7, 2:00-4:00pm (Aishe and Staff)

includes off-leash puppy play!

Play (and train) Your puppy--The play's the thing!

Play is a great way to build a wonderful bond with your puppy, as well as a fun, effortless way to train them while you're at it. All puppies have a natural instinct for play. It is an important part of their social development. Engaging with play with your pups is a win-win for both pups and humans, both fun and rewarding, exercising their busy minds and bodies, and it help avoid problems like fear and biting, and resource guarding.

  • Determine what type of games appeal to your pup.
  • Teach them the rules of the game, you control it!
  • Learn how to play a variety of games: retrieval, tug, mind-games, chase and running games, find-it games, even games your pup's made up on her own!
  • Get them hooked on play; and speed up their manners training!

Sunday, July 18, 1:00pm-3:00pm (Kim and Aishe) (cancelled)

Extracurricular Sports

The best training should never be "all work and no play". This especially applies to our dogs. Dogs are genetically wired to play--fetch, tug, and chase, are just the tip of the iceberg. Classes like K9 Nosework and Doggercize channel their abundant mental and physical energy into some of the most fun activities you and your dog could ever share., And the best part? Life-changing learning!

K9 Nosework

We are so excited to introduce a new and exciting dog sport and training class K9 Nosework!

Urban life does not afford many opportunities for dogs to use their nose in ways they were born to do--at least not appropriately.  Sure, they’ll sniff and find every little piece of garbage on the street, or bits of dinner sitting temptingly on the counter—dig up our plants in the backyard, chase birds, cats, and joggers. Nosework gives our dogs a structured game in which to pursue these powerful urges and gives us a chance to share in fun with them!

Benefits of K9 Nosework:

  • Provides incredible mental stimulation
  • Burns tons of energy
  • Builds incredible focus in easily over-stimulated dogs/pups
